Metaphor

Metaphors are comparisons that show how two things that are similar in one important way. Metaphors are a way to describe something. Authors use them in poems to make their writing more interesting or entertaining. Unlike similes that use the words “as” or “like” to make a comparison, Metaphors state that something is something else. Robert Herrick,A Meditation for his Mistress he uses metaphors to compare a women to flowers. He uses specific flowers to capture her beauty. YOU are a tulip seen to-day, But, dearest, of so short a stay That where you grew scarce man can say. The first stanza clearly has a metaphor, he states that she is a tulip
